REVEALED: Davina McCall’s ex-husband’s adventure travel firm goes bust with debts of £400,000
- The wheel of fortune has turned in brutal manner for Matthew Robertson
- He married Davina McCall back in 2000 with Dannii Monogue among the guests
- His firm Momentum Adventure, a luxury adventure company, has gone under
Until very recently, his life seemed enriched by pretty well every blessing – a fabulously athletic wife, a son and two daughters, his own business and a sumptuous, £6million Georgian mansion, with swimming pool and tennis court, set in 38 acres of East Sussex parkland.
But the wheel of fortune has turned in brutal manner for Matthew Robertson, who married the effervescent Davina McCall back in 2000, with Zoe Ball and Dannii Minogue among their guests.
Just two years after renewing their marriage vows in 2015, in a carefree ceremony in Las Vegas – ‘#togetherforever,’ announced an exultant Davina on social media – the couple divorced. And I can reveal that commercial calamity has now been added to Robertson’s woes, with the irrevocable failure of Momentum Adventure, his luxury adventure company, which has gone under with debts of £408,000.
It’s a cruel blow for Robertson, 53 this month. Though in the 1990s he hosted Pet Rescue, a TV series tracking the rescue of abandoned and injured animals, his fiercest passion has always been for adventurous travel. This led him to create Momentum and ‘designing and delivering trips to the most remote and fascinating destinations around the world,’ as he records online, adding that he caters for ‘clients looking to experience something beyond the traditional five-star offering’.

After his divorce from McCall, from which he reportedly emerged with a £2.5million settlement, Robertson did his utmost to ensure that their relationship remained civil – so much so that, for a while, they remained together in the former marital home. But then came repeated lockdowns, with catastrophic consequences for travel companies – Momentum Adventure included. The liquidators’ report bleakly concludes that there won’t be ‘sufficient funds’ to pay anything to unsecured creditors.
McCall, 55, has now moved into a newly built £3.4million house in Kent with their children and her boyfriend, hairdresser Michael Douglas. Robertson, meanwhile, is attempting to rebuild his fortunes: he’s established a video company, co-located with a pharmacy in Wadhurst, Sussex – but was unavailable for comment when I called.
