The video, which has since gone viral on TikTok, shows Mr Lawless falling through a Christmas tree and crashing onto the drive.

Mr Lawless, who worked at a local GP surgery for the Covid vaccination rollout, said: ‘I’d been up and down all morning and whether I was overconfident or not I don’t know.

‘The wife had been standing on the bottom of the ladder all morning and I didn’t realise she wasn’t there.’

His wife Catherine can be seen trying to help as Mr Lawless pulls himself to his feet in a bid to catch his breath.

He said he had minor injuries from falling into the Christmas tree and was lucky more damage wasn’t done.

Mr Lawless added: ‘That Christmas tree at the bottom went down the side of my face and took quite a bit of skin off the forehead, side of my nose and my cheek but it also cut the inside of my mouth. But it’s all right, I can live with that.’
