Bank Holiday Monday’s instalment of Coronation Street brings with it a very familiar face – in the shape of Lorraine Kelly.
Yup, the daytime TV favourite has made a guest appearance on the soap as herself – ending up in a tricky situation after being spotted on holiday by a starstruck Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth).
So just what’s Lorraine doing on Corrie – and is this the first time she’s shown up on a soap?
Here’s what you need to know…
Why is Lorraine Kelly in Coronation Street?
Lorraine shows up as herself on Monday night as she is spotted by Gail, after she hears rumours that the presenter is staying at the same holiday park as her.
Gail enlists daughter Sarah and granddaughter Bethany to help track her idol down and, sure enough, spots Lorraine on a pedalo on a lake – with the starstruck Gail giving chase in a bid to meet her TV hero.
Things don’t quite go as planned though – with the whole thing ending in a bit of a disaster.
What happens? You’ll have to tune in to find that one out.
However, if you were thinking Gail would be inviting her over to the cobbles for a cuppa in future episodes, you’ll be disappointed as it’s a one-off cameo for Lorraine.
Lorraine is a huge Corrie fan, and it’s not the first time she’s been mentioned on the soap – also nabbing herself a namecheck last month when Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) was spotted watching her on TV.
How many times has Lorraine Kelly appeared in soaps?
Despite being a familiar face on the small screen, this will mark Lorraine’s debut appearance in Coronation Street.
However it’s not the first time she’s been on a soap, having previously shown up in the Scottish series River City.
That show, which has been airing on BBC Scotland since 2002, played host to Lorraine in a 2006 episode in which she showed up a surprise guest at the wedding of characters Gina and Archie.
Coronation Street airs every night this week at 9pm on ITV1, straight after the live Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals.
