For the last few months, Emmerdale viewers have witnessed Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi), living through hell thanks to a stalker, but fans are still no closer to knowing who’s behind her anguish.
In tonight’s episode, the stalking situation steps up a gear and Leyla’s safety hangs in jeopardy when the stalker attacks her in her office, jumping out at her from the shadows and leaving her shaking.
Leyla manages to attack the assailant back, but he or she flees before she gets a proper look at their face.
The mysterious stalker will leave Leyla fighting for her life – but just who is her tormentor?
One theory is that Leyla’s stalker could be linked to the trashing of her wedding planning business, Take A Vow, back in May. However, even if they are linked, there are still not enough clues to reveal who is the culprit.
In tonight’s episode, the finger points at an intriguing new man on the scene called Gaz.
Leyla has has only just rekindled her romance with Liam (Jonny McPherson) but it looks like a man called Gaz has caught her eye too, as after bumping into him, she is seen inviting him Into Take A Vow.
Liam and Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) witness Leyla’s invite to Gaz, and are left shocked, as they know that Gaz was previously boasting to David (Matthew Wolfenden) in his shop about going on a date with a ‘loose woman’. Surely he doesn’t mea Leyla?
However, while it may have been an innocent invitation on her part, Leyla soon realises what Gaz is after and is left mortified.
It isn’t until later that day that she then is then attacked by this mysterious stalker in her shop, who jumps out at her from the shadows.
It could be Gaz, but has Gaz really been on the scene long enough to be the reason behind all of the strange happenings in Leyla’s life, and what is his motive?
Speaking about this, actress Roxy told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think once Gaz is gone she trusts that he was there for that afternoon, I don’t think she worries that there’s going to be any repercussions after that, but definitely initially when she’s in that situation — in her office, alone with the door closed and no-one else can hear them — I think in that moment she’s very scared.
‘And he does some quite mean words to say to her, but I think once he leaves, she’s more concerned as to how she ended up in there, and why she ended up in there, and who could be doing this, because obviously there’s more than just this that’s happened.’
Leyla will discover who is behind her living hell soon, and teasing this reveal, Roxy added: ‘Given the right set of circumstances, she can be very empathetic, she can be a very forgiving and understanding person.
‘Equally, she is someone who will stick up for herself, and isn’t just going to be walked all over, so I think once she finds out, she’ll act accordingly depending on who that person is.‘
There’s only one way to find out who is behind Leyla’s anguish: keep tuning in.
Emmerdale airs tonight on ITV1 at 7pm.
