‘The Voice’: Blake Shelton jokes Kelly Clarkson got Adam Levine ‘fired’ after Maroon 5 audition

Adam Levine may have left “The Voice,” but he’s still on the other coaches’ minds.

Contestant Keegan Ferrell, 21, reinvigorated the memory of Levine, an original coach since the show’s 2011 debut, with his rendition of Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved.”

Ferrell earned two chair turns from Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton. And with teams quickly filling up, it’s safe to say the coaches weren’t fighting fair during the final night of Blind Auditions Monday.

“I happen to be buddies with the guy who wrote and sang that song,” Shelton said, referring to Levine, who departed the hit NBC competition after 16 seasons in 2019.

The country crooner relied on his usual tactic to lure singers to his team: Lying.

“Take note at who’s missing and who is in that chair. I’m not saying Kelly Clarkson got Adam fired, but he’s gone and she’s sitting there,” Shelton said, adding that “The Kelly Clarkson Show” host is a tyrant at NBC: “This network stands for ‘Nothing But Clarkson.'”

After repeatedly objecting to getting Levine fired, Clarkson finally decided to embrace the boss persona Shelton forced upon her with some “Game of Thrones” references.

“They are all liars… Fine. I’ll be Khalessi. I’m powerful,” she declared, referring to Emilia Clarke’s fierce character, Daenerys Targaryen. “Who do you want to go with? Powerful or weak?”

But it appears Clarkson may not be up to date with Khalessi’s fate because, like  Daenerys Targaryen, Clarkson’s chances of winning Ferrell burned out. Ferrell selected Shelton, who said he was willing to stand up to Clarkson and “get fired” for the Indiana native.

Shelton sprinkled salt on Clarkson’s wound by moonwalking in front of her. Clarkson sulked: “I don’t know what’s happening today. I’ve had no one pick me.”

Her luck soon turned around because there was simply no other coach to compete against: Shelton, Nick Jonas and John Legend had each filled up their teams with 10 singers.

“Alright Kelly, you got this,” Jonas said, before Clarkson quickly added, “Yeah, now because no one is against me.”

The “American Idol” alum completed her team with 21-year-old Ainae following her soulful rendition of Daniel Caesar’s “Best Part.”

“I’m so excited that I don’t have to fight… anybody else for you,” Clarkson said, “because I feel like I would have definitely lost.”

Shelton noted that this season has been extra cutthroat: “I don’t know what it is about this season, but you guys are like extra mean. Like you’re extra competitive.”

And the competition is just getting started. “The Voice” will return to NBC on March 29 for the Battle Rounds.
