The Larkins viewers seriously distracted as they spot legendary children's TV star – and he looks VERY different

THE Larkins viewers were left seriously distracted after they spotted a legendary children's TV star – and he looks VERY different.

The new ITV series – a reboot of classic drama The Darling Buds of May – debuted on Sunday night.

It sees Bradley Walsh take on the role made famous by David Jason in the original, Pop Larkin, alongside Joanna Scanlan and Sabrina Bartlett.

While some viewers were distracted by the fact Bradley's real life son Barney appears on the show, others were sidetracked by a different person.

In one scene where Pop met Alec Norman in the village, and viewers immediately realised they recognised him from classic '00s kids show, My Parents Are Aliens.

Alec is played by actor Tony Gardner, and viewers of a certain age remember him as Brian, the alien dad who cared for orphaned children Mel, Josh and Sophie in the hit ITV series until it ended in 2006.

Taking to Twitter, one excited viewer wrote: "Just spotted Brian from My Parents Are Aliens in #TheLarkins!"

Another added: "Me – oh it's Brian from My Parents Are Aliens! A few moments later – oh, it's Peter Davison too! #TheLarkins."

A third tweeted: "'It's the dad out of My Parents Are Aliens. It's one of the old Doctor Whos! It's Bradley Walsh's son! It's him out of Cold Feet'. Me every time a new character appears."

Tony has had a stellar TV career since My Parents Are Aliens ended in 2006 after five series.

He has appeared in The Thick of It, Fresh Meat as Professor Tony Shales and Last Tango in Halifax as John.

Tony has also guest starred on Death in Paradise, Doctor Who and Not Going Out alongside Lee Mack.

The Larkins airs Sundays on ITV.
