A brand new trailer for the upcoming fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale has finally provided an extended look at June Osbourne’s (played by Elisabeth Moss) ongoing fight against Gilead. Unfortunately, the next outing of Hulu’s popular dystopian drama could be going without one of its biggest draws as co-star O.T. Fagbenle appeared to be missing from the latest footage.

Viewers are concerned that June Osbourne’s husband Luke Bankole (O.T. Fagbenle) could be killed off in season four.

Following months of coronavirus delays, the bleak adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s timely science fiction novel is finally returning to screens this April.

A new trailer released at the end of February has teased June’s new role as a liberated freedom fighter against the patriarchal state of Gilead following the tumultuous events of last season.

However, it appears her mission to reunite with her husband, Luke, in Canada could come to a brutal end as Elisabeth Moss’s co-star O.T. Fagbenle failed to make an appearance in the new clips.

There’s still a chance Hulu is keeping June and Luke’s reunion close to the chest before the series gets back underway on Wednesday, April 28.

Even so, Luke’s distinct absence could still be cause for concern heading into the upcoming season premiere.

The new trailer was recently posted on Reddit, where eager fans flocked to the comments to debate what the ambiguous footage could mean for season four.

Reddit user sunflowerdynasty replied: “WOW! I didn’t see any of Luke in the trailer.”

“While I really want to see their reunion, June joining The Resistance and refusing to stop causing problems until she gets Hannah back seems super on par with her character and yet is a very pleasant surprise!”

Season four will be picking up after the events of the third season, which left June in the arms of her fellow Handmaids after being shot by a Gilead guard.

June has effectively severed all ties with the oppressive system, but seems to be making her return to the ruins of the United States to reignite the rebellion.

Sadly, this could put her efforts to reunite with her family, including June and Luke’s daughter Hannah (Jordana Blake), on hold.

Some anxious viewers are now concerned something could happen to Luke before the separated couple find their way back to each other.

Plus, the fact that the new trailer reveals a tender embrace between June and Nick Blaine (Max Minghella) may also confirm Luke will eventually be taken out of the picture.

Another fan speculated: “I will cry if June and Luke finally get to see each other and some random s**t goes down and interrupts them before they get to say a single word to one another.

“I can see Hulu pulling that kind of move and I’m already preemptively screaming (in my head).”

This viewer suggested Luke could be alive for some of the series, but Luke could still be the first casualty of season four if Gilead catches wind of their reunion.

The Handmaid’s Tale has certainly built a reputation as one of the most harrowing television series in recent years.

With a fifth instalment and a sequel show based on Atwood’s follow-up novel, The Testaments, looking likely, fans are hopeful the series won’t be cruel enough to keep the pair separated for much longer.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 premieres Wednesday, April 28 on Hulu.
