RuPaul's Drag Race season 12 final three revealed for virtual lip sync

**Warning – spoilers ahead**

Season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race has faced quite a few difficulties from the get-go – and that was before coronavirus made a live final an impossibility.

And now we know just who will be in that final, and how the hell the winner will be crowned.

It has been confirmed that Gigi Goode, Jaida Essence Hall and Crystal Methyd will be lip syncing for the crown in two weeks time… remotely.

It has been confirmed that in the most technically difficult finale yet, RuPaul and the final three shot the grand final using ‘boundary-pushing technology to highlight the creativity of each queen’ via virtual video.

Early seasons of Drag Race saw the winner crowned in a hall full of queens and fans, but since season nine, the top four queens have also had to lip sync to the death – giving us legendary moments like Sasha Velour’s rose petal wig reveal.

But now, Gigi, Jaida and Crystal will have to lip sync for their lives essentially via Zoom, and in the words of RuPaul, we can’t wait to see how this turns out.

It will be a final three, not a final four, this year, as last night’s episode saw Sherry Pie making the last four.

However, before the third episode of season 12, it was confirmed that Sherry had been disqualified after multiple men accusing the queen – real name Joey Gugliemelli – of catfishing them and duping them into providing humiliating ‘audition’ tapes as he posed as a casting director.

Gugliemelli said in a statement: ‘I want to start by saying how sorry I am that I caused such trauma and pain and how horribly embarrassed and disgusted I am with myself. I know that the pain and hurt that I have caused will never go away and I know that what I did was wrong and truly cruel.

‘Until being on RuPaul’s Drag Race, I never really understood how much my mental health and taking care of things meant. I learned on that show how important “loving yourself” is and I don’t think I have ever loved myself. I have been seeking help and receiving treatment since coming back to NYC.

‘I truly apologise to everyone I have hurt with my actions. I also want to say how sorry I am to my sisters of season 12 and honestly the whole network and production company. All I can do is change the behaviour and that starts with me and doing that work.’

Drag Race confirmed that the series would air as planned out of respect for the other queens, but that Sherry had been disqualified and would not appear in the finale.

While much of her presence has been edited from the season, Sherry was a strong competitor, and made it through to the final based on last night’s challenge (which was filmed last year).

After the remaining queens were tasked with performing a medley of songs from RuPaul’s Drag Race Live, Gigi won her fourth maxi challenge, and Crystal and Jackie Cox landed in the bottom two, lip syncing to Jennifer Lopez’s On The Floor.

It was Crystal who emerged victorious, with Jackie missing out on the final.

Before the virtual lip sync, fans will be treated to the Season 12 Reunion, which sees Ru and the season 12 queens catching up over video chat in a sleepover setting.

The grand final will also see a number of guest appearances from queens including reigning champ Yvie Oddly, while season 11 Miss Congeniality Nina West will crown her successor… remotely, of course.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 12 Reunion airs in the States on 22 May, with the final airing on 29 May – the episodes will drop on 23 May and 30 May respectively on Netflix.
