Maureen Lipman says she wasn’t aware that she was making the 60th anniversary episode when they were filming.
The soap is celebrating 60 years on the air with a spectacular week of episodes.
Fans have already seen Geoff Metcalfe’s (Ian Bartholomew) long-running reign of terror over Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) come to a gruesome end after he fell to his death from a roof while chasing her.
However there’s plenty more drama in store for the residents of Weatherfield as the residents are set to come together fight back against Ray Crosby’s (Mark Frost) plan to destroy the street.
Appearing Thursday’s Loose Women, Maureen, who plays Evelyn Plummer on the soap, was asked how it felt to be part of the show at this landmark.
She told host Christine Lampard: ‘I did watch the 60th episode last night, of course when we made it I had no idea it was the 60th episode so it was just another fight at the moment to retain the feeling of a full gang of people doing a protest when you’ve got to be two metres apart.
‘It’s hard to get the intimacy of one to one, it’s hard but we’re doing it.’
Full of praise for her castmates, she continued: ‘It’s a good show and those actors are pretty spectacular, we had tantamount to no rehearsal and they produce the most exquisite scenes.’
‘Evelyn is such an old bag,’ she continued, ‘it’s great to be on there looking my age. It’s a great link to my late husband Jack who wrote episode 13.’
As the epic 60th anniversary week continues, there’s a big storyline coming up for Carla Connor (Alison King) too as she has a one night stand with Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).
