Lucifer fans have already begun predicting how the crime procedural will come to an end as season six finishes. One of the biggest concerns is what will happen to Chloe Decker (played by Lauren German) and Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) as it is revealed whether they will have a happy ending or not. One theory suggests Lucifer might renounce his immortality to be with his beloved detective – here’s what you need to know about this.

Will Lucifer become mortal to stay with Chloe?

Netflix has confirmed Lucifer season six will be the final outing of the hit series to air.

This was announced earlier this year when the platform went back on its plans to end with series five.

Filming has now started on the show and viewers are anxiously awaiting what will happen next.

While they wait for new episodes, some have begun speculating on how the show will come to an end.

One major discussion is about whether the show will have a happy ending or will see Chloe and Lucifer split.

The big worry stems from the fact Lucifer is an immortal being while Chloe is seemingly only a human.

Therefore, at some point, the series will have to resolve if the pair have to break-up or they can find a way to stay together.

One of the big theories about how this might happen revolves around Lucifer becoming mortal.

In the first half of season five, it was revealed this was a possibility after Lilith (Lesley-Ann Brandt) transferred her immortality to Lucifer’s ring.

This meant she was able to grow old naturally and die as a human death on Earth.

The fact this storyline was shown so recently has led some fans to suggest the writers are planting a clue about Lucifer’s future.

Posting on Reddit, fan Isle-of-Whimsey wrote: “If this show ends on any note darker than ‘hopeful’ I’m going to throw a table.

“You don’t end a comedy on an unhappy ending, but I also don’t think ‘bittersweet’ automatically means ‘kinda unhappy.’

“I don’t think either lead will die, but sacrifices will be made.

“And I agree that while it’s not my favourite ending, Lucifer becoming truly mortal makes more sense now than Chloe being ‘equalised’ in some way (although this is my preferred endnote).

“Otherwise the whole parallel with Lilith is unnecessary, and we know the writers better than that.”

The theory definitely has some weight to it as viewers know so far in the series Lucifer has been willing to sacrifice his life for Chloe.

However, with nothing confirmed yet, it might be a waiting game to find out how this will all play out.

Viewers do still have a little while before seeing season six as the second half of series five has not even aired yet.

This is because coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions meant filming had to stop earlier than planned on the finale.

The current hope is the show will be released later in 2020 but Netflix has not given an official date yet.

Season six will then air at some point after this when filming has concluded.

Lucifer season 5 part A is available to stream on Netflix now.
