An amazing home featured on Grand Designs has gone up for sale for £3.45million.
Known as The Curve, the five-bedroom mansion has curved design with massive floor-to-ceiling windows.
It costs its owner, milkman-turned-builder and artist Barry Surtees, £1.8million to build, and plenty of time and stress to match that hefty price tag.
The construction project began back in 2007 and in the years that followed, Barry suffered a heart attack and five bypasses while creating his dream home.
‘I’ve never been a depressive person, but I was deeply affected by the heart attack which came out of the blue,’ Barry told The Daily Mail.
‘It made me question everything, including whether I should be bothering with material things, including the house.’
But after recovering and finally being given the all-clear, Barry persevered. He completed the home and then in 2012, he sold the home to cover the immense costs of creating the mansion.
Now, the house is on sale again – this time for £3,450,000.
You get a pretty special property for that price.
Let’s talk about the exteriors first. There’s that immensely cool curved glass, heated swimming pool, and a private rooftop garden, all with views of the Sussex countryside.
Go inside and you’ll marvel at the amount of natural light flooding the home, thanks to those floor-to-ceiling windows.
There are four floors, with five large bedrooms and five bathrooms, and a unique ‘suite’ on top, with that roof garden we mentioned, an en-suite bathroom, and incredible panoramic views.
On the ground floor, a four-metre tall bespoke front door opens into a large hallways and a cloakroom, then into the open-plan living area.
To the left is a Minotti Cucine kitchen, with wifi-enabled ovens, dishwashers, and a coffee machine, and to the right is the dining area.
There’s an in-built elevator to all four floors, in case you don’t fancy taking the stairs.
Go up one floor and you’ll find the four main bedrooms, each with private access to their own terrace.
On the second floor is the ‘penthouse’ master bedroom, complete with panoramic views from a bed with integrated lighting and blind controls, and its own wet room with a Falper suite and Aquademy Digital Spa shower, plus a freestanding bath.
There’s also a lower ground floor entirely dedicated to exercise and relaxation. Down there is a heated saltwater pool with a jet swim system, a walk-in steam room with double shower, and a home gym, leading out to a decked terrace with a Jacuzzi and garden.
On the other side of that floor is a home cinema, naturally.
There’s a lovely garden outside, too, with its own detached studio that you could use as a home office or rent out.
The location’s pretty great too, sitting on Withdean Road in Brighton. It’s in a secluded spot with hilltop views, and is just a few minutes from the beach.
