EMMERDALE star Jason Merrells has opened up to fans about feeling like "s**t" after failing to land new work this year.
The soap actor took to Twitter with an angry rant, explaining he felt "so undignified" as he was still left waiting for any acting jobs.
Jason, 52, who is best known for his role as Home Farm owner Declan Macey in ITV soap Emmerdale, opened up about his work-related woes.
The star, who has also appeared in Finding Alice, Casualty and Cutting It, admitted that the demand for auditions had slowed down as he got older.
He told fans on Twitter: "Staring at phone that won’t ring. Waiting on a job. 25 plus yrs doing this and it don’t get easier.
“I know there are worse jobs, I’ve done some, but being 50 odd and still playing 'ooh pick me, pick me!' 4 or 5 times a year, (at least!) is s**t."
Jason went on to say how it felt "so undignified", before going on to ask his fans if they had any advice for him in dealing with the quiet times.
“Anyone who has a way of handling this without veering between violent Tarantino fantasies of taking out whole rooms full of execs, and forensic, eviscerating self – critical doubt – I take my hat off to you," he went on.
Some of his acting friends took to the comments to encourage Jason, including Minder star Gary Webster who wrote: "Form is temporary, class is permanent."
He went on: "Having worked with you on the coal face you are absolute class. I usually regard any time off as more time to spend with loved ones so it's a win, win.
"If I get it great my ego is stroked if I don't great I go for a drink with my son."
Holby City actress Kaye Wragg agreed: "As much as I love my time off with my kids and catching up, that doesn’t pay the bills.
“I hear you-as a female 48yo – 50 next year- Not easier- but just quicker to recover for me- always hoping it’s because something better is coming… good luck- you’re ace- don’t think otherwise.”
Others also left words of encouragement, including calling him a "brilliant" and "class actor", including EastEnders star Tamzin Outwaite.
Earlier this year, Jason was part of astar-studded cast in six-part drama Finding Alice alongside Keeley Hawes and Joanna Lumley.
Jason took on the role of Keeley's late husband Harry, whose cause of death and secret criminal past haunted her.
Jason was also in ITV soap Emmerdale in which he played Home Farm owner Declan Macey from 2010 until his departure in 2015.
He's also starred in Sweet Medicine, Waterloo Road, Lark Rise to Candleford and Agatha Raisin over the years.
While Jason has complained there wasn't much work going on during lockdown, the star appeared to keep busy by extending his countryside home.
