Penny Lancaster is one of the latest contestants on Celebrity MasterChef. The model, TV presenter and special police constable is adding another string to her bow as she takes part in the BBC cooking competition. However, in a recent interview she’s opened up about her culinary skills, confessing she used to find it “nerve-racking” cooking meals for her husband Rod Stewart in lockdown.

Penny and Rod have been married since 2007 and the Celebrity MasterChef star has now admitted her husband has “luxury” standards when it comes to food.

She revealed: “I met Rod 21 years ago and he’s always had a chef. That’s kind of the ultimate in luxury, isn’t it?

“We’re very fortunate to have him work for us four days a week. So, on his days off, and especially during lockdown, we didn’t have a chef for a while and I thought, ‘Well, I’m going to have to up my game.’

“When the chef’s not around, you can get away with doing the boys’ breakfasts and lunches.

“But I could never cook to the level my husband expects because he dresses for dinner every night.

“We eat in the main dining room with the candelabra lit, with proper place settings and music.

“It’s always a very romantic dinner, three courses,” she revealed.

Penny continued: “There’s a lot of preparation and everything else so I wouldn’t have time to do all that stuff.

“But lockdown changed things, so I started going through recipe books and trying new things.

“It was a bit nerve-racking, but I just started off doing a taco night and a curry night,” she told The Daily Mail.

However, Penny also revealed that since filming the Celebrity MasterChef she has been remaking the dishes from the show and plans to show off her skills at a dinner party.

The star also recently opened up about her cooking skills during an appearance on The One Show.

When asked what level of chef she was going into Celebrity MasterChef, Penny replied: “You couldn’t use ‘chef’ and my name together!”

She confessed cooking at home amid lockdown was what inspired her to take part in the competition.

The star continued: “For all the bad things that happened in lockdown, one of the great things was coming together as a family.

“When my boys were asked what was the good thing about lockdown, they said ‘mummy’s cooking.’

“Then the show idea came my way,” Penny explained.

Fans can see Penny competing on Celebrity MasterChef under the watchful eyes of judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

She’s part of a star studded line-up that features famous faces, including: Duncan James, Bez, Su Pollard, Dion Dublin and Katie Price.

Celebrity MasterChef continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
