Gareth and Hannah appeared on Wednesday’s episode of the Channel 4 show, where property expert Leah Charles-King was on-hand to advise and help the husband and wife search for their dream holiday home in Spain’s Costa Tropical. The A Place in the Sun guests faced a tough call as they made each of the five properties potential contenders, but when it came to putting in an offer on their favourite, they were faced with a fresh dilemma that left them emotional.

Leah’s first choice for Hannah and Gareth was a two-bed bungalow in Albaycin.

It featured a fantastic roof terrace which was extremely close to the town’s castle walls and included sea views.

Inside was a spacious open-plan living space.

Although the pair liked the property and kept it as a contender, they admitted they wanted more space for a “man cave” for Gareth.

The second option, a three-bed townhouse in La Loma, became an instant favourite with the couple.

The modern townhouse included a garage as well as several balconies and terraces.

Valued at £143,590, the home became a promising option, but there were still three more homes Leah had in store.

Gareth and Hannah ended up liking all five of the properties but had to make a decision on which one they would like to put an all-important offer on.

They managed to narrow their choices to three before deciding to sleep on the decision.

Meeting with Leah the next day, the trio discussed the success of the property search.

The host explained: “When I left you yesterday, there were three in the running and you went away with a bit of a headache.

“Then what happened?”

The husband and wife admitted they soon discounted another home but were stuck between the second and the fifth properties. The last had been a three-bed in Brocal.

“Our hearts loved both houses equally,” Gareth commented.

He continued: “When it came to practical and sensible we picked house number two.”

“No way, the modern house!” a shocked Leah replied. “No way! I think you’ve made the perfect choice.”

The couple made an initial offer of £130,000. Unfortunately, this first offer was deemed too low.

Leah explained that the sellers thought the offer should be closer to the asking price.

“We’ll go £134,000,” Gareth decided. “I think that’s a good step forward.”

However, the couple were disappointed once again when the second offer was also rejected.

“They have come back with a counteroffer,” Leah stated, not giving too much away.

And instead of relaying the information, Leah opted for an unorthodox approach, asking: “What’s the highest that you’re willing to go to?”

“Around the £140,000 mark,” Hannah replied. Leah allowed kept the couple in the dark for a moment as she considered the offer.

“Well, the owners have rejected £134,000,” Leah repeated before dropping the bombshell: “But their counter offer is £139,500.”

The couple nodded at each other tearfully as the property expert seemingly had her answer without asking the question outright.

Leah asked: “Am I making the call back? There’s tears!”

“Yes,” Hannah confirmed as the excited couple accepted the offer and began wiping away the tears.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
