Today's free horse racing tips: Chester live on ITV – Steve Mullen's betting preview for Friday, May 10

GABRIAL THE SAINT has a fair draw in stall seven and shapes as though stepping back to this trip will be a wise move. He has winning form around here from just 2lb lower in the weights and the Richard Fahey horses are in good order.

Ptarmigan Ridge was just beaten on his comeback from six months off at Haydock last time when making his debut for Richard Hughes. He is up 3lb for that but likes it here and has the ideal draw.

Dragons Tail is interesting coming back from a breathing operation. He is also just 2lb higher than when winning over course and distance and has the champion jockey on board today.

MATTERHORN keeps it simple by going from the front and those tactics can be deployed to good effect here. He was no fewer than seven lengths clear when winning Lingfield’s Easter Classic last time and warrants this hike in class.

Addeybb was a Group 2 winner last season over a mile and seemed to stay well when upped to this trip at Lingfield last time when finishing third. He’s back from almost six months off but goes well fresh and is a big danger.

Forest Ranger is consistent in races like this and was a good third in similar company at Newmarket last time. He won this race 12 months ago and should go close to defending his crown.

RESTORER won this from 6lb lower in the weights 12 months ago and can make another bold bid under Ryan Moore. He won again at Leicester after his Roodee success and goes well fresh so his five-month absence isn’t a problem.

Epaulement comes here on the back of a game win at Ripon and could follow up for local trainer Tom Dascombe.

He’s just 3lb higher in the weights so has every chance. Sputnik Planum is in interesting coming back from more than a year off. He showed lots of promise before his break and is one to watch in the betting.

CLEONTE came back from seven months off to finish a good third at Ascot last time out. That was in a Group 3 contest and he improved as he travelled along the 2m distance. He sees out this extra quarter-mile well and looks on a fair mark, 6lb higher than when finishing a close third in the Cesarewitch last season.

Who Dares Wins has hit the frame in the past two runnings of this Chester Cup and warmed up with a good third at Newbury last time. He’s off the same mark as 12 months ago and should run another solid race.

Austrian School is a progressive stayer who wasn’t stopping when winning over 1m6f at Musselburgh on comeback latest. He’s got winning form around here and should be in the shake-up again.

KACHY won this race 12 months ago and has looked as good as ever since having a wind operation this winter. He ran away with three all-weather contests, including in the big final on Good Friday at Lingfield.

He keeps it simple from the front and will take lots of stopping despite being drawn in stall eight. She Can Boogie will be up with the pace too and has a better stall in three.

She was beaten just over a length here last time and can hit the frame.

A Momentofmadness likes Chester and won a couple of decent handicaps last season. He’s back from a break here and usually starts well, which means he can take advantage of a low draw.

HEART OF SOUL has been going well on the all-weather with a run of placed efforts. His last turf run came over this course and distance when he was beaten a neck last June.

He’s just 2lb higher today in this lesser race so should go well. Archippos came back to the level with a close-up third at Newcastle last time and comes here off the same mark over a trip that suits well.

This Girl got the worst of the draw when down the field at Haydock last time and has been given a little help from the handicapper, which gives her a chance.

DRAKENSBERG has been beating all-comers on the all-weather in Ireland and trainer Tony Martin wouldn’t be sending him over without a big chance. He is taking a sharp step up in distance here but shapes like a real stayer and could have a lot more to offer.

Master Archer has won on both his runs around Chester, albeit over slightly shorter distances. He is 4lb higher than the most recent of those and shapes as though there could be improvement to come.

Constancio has been in good form over hurdles and had winning form on the level when trained by Jim Bolger.
