Super Bowl 2021 betting tips, predictions and free bets – With NFL expert Mike Carlson

The 2020 NFL season draws to a close on Sunday with Super Bowl 55, and it’s a case of youth against experience.

Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs travel to Tampa to take on Tom Brady’s Buccaneers in their own backyard.

It’s the first time ever that a team has played in a Super Bowl in their own stadium, but it’s not enough for the Bucs to be bookies favourites.

Kansas City are currently 4/7 to win back-to-back titles, with the Bucs 29/20 to get a first championship in 18 years and give Brady his seventh Super Bowl victory.

Sun Sport sat down with NFL expert and pundit Mike Carlson to look at the game and offer up some predictions ahead of the big one.

Carlson said: “This should be a great matchup and the spread (Chiefs are -3 point favourites) is about right, I think it will be a game where it will be close for the majority.

“The score might not always be close, but the way these two teams are matched up, I can’t see either team running away with it.

“The Chiefs have those playmakers where a big play can come from nowhere.

"Patrick Mahomes is different to Tom Brady in that he can create more stuff off script – You can do everything right on defense but he can still make a 30 yard throw.

“The key for the Bucs is for Brady to be well protected and to be given room to work. They are the in-form team, although I think the Chiefs are the better squad on paper.

“They also can attack the Chiefs biggest weakness, which right now is offensive tackle. Both of their starting tackles will miss the game and it’s an area where Tampa are strong in.

“It is a home game for the Bucs and although there won’t be many fans in the stadium, they still have the advantage of living and training from home for this week.

“For those reasons, it’s why my first instance was to take Tampa on the spread on Monday.

“The Over/Under for total points is 56.5 and I’m going with the under because of how close I think it will be.

“I can see a scenario where both teams feel each other out early on. It could go a bit crazier later on but still be in a position where both teams can win it.

“Look at the Bucs v Packers game the other week, Tampa looked like they had it easily won but in the end there was only five points in it.

“When it comes to Super Bowl MVP, it’s hard to look past a QB getting it as both guys have that halo.

"Even if one of them is having a bad game; if they lead their team to a winning last-minute drive, they’ll get it anyways.

“Away from them you could see a scenario where , who played for Bucs coach Bruce Arians at Arizona, makes a pick and another huge play.

"For the Bucs, it could be if RBs or have a 100yd+ game with a long rushing touchdown.

"But I really think the odds are strong for a QB MVP this year.”

Super Bowl Picks

Bucs (+3pts) Points Spread – 19/20
