Mourinho threatens to haunt Man Utd on return with Spurs boss boasting amazing record of downing former sides – The Sun

JOSE MOURINHO is preparing for his first return to Manchester United since he was sacked – and his former employers will be desperate to ensure it’s a miserable visit.

However, the new Tottenham boss would love nothing more than to continue his 100 per cent start by toppling the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

And his record against his old clubs throughout his illustrious career will certainly have United worried.

Fifth-placed Spurs travel to the North West on Wednesday for the Premier League clash.

A victory for Mourinho and his men would lift them five points clear of United.

And the Portuguese manager’s record over the years will certainly see a few punters backing him to emerge triumphant on his old stomping ground.

Mourinho, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino on a four-year contract on November 20, has gone into battle against his ex-clubs on 32 occasions previously.

And out of those wars, he has only finished on the losing side an impressive eight times.

Even more worrying for United, Mourinho has tasted victory a whopping 18 occasions.

The 56-year-old first came face-to-face with an old foe when his Leiria outfit drew against Benfica way back in 2001.

And the last time he took a team to face one of his former clubs also ended in a draw.

That occurred in October 2010 when his United drew 2-2 with Chelsea in the Premier League – just two months before he was axed by the Red Devils.
