LEWIS HAMILTON has been backed by dad Anthony to put in the hard graft required to beat Max Verstappen.
The reigning world champion, 36, has changed up his routine with a number of extra hours in the simulator and Mercedes factory to try and eke everything out of his car, which has been inferior to the Red Bull for much of the season.
And Anthony believes Lewis has the work ethic needed to pull off a comeback and win his eighth world title.
He told SunSport at Silverstone: “I’m always optimistic, it’s just about putting in the hard work.
“Work hard and hopefully the rewards will come.”
Hamilton starts Sunday's race from second on the grid after being jumped by Max Verstappen in the first-ever sprint qualifying.
The Brit will be driven forward by a huge Silverstone crowd on Sunday, fuelled by glorious sunshine.
Anthony added: “It’s been absolutely amazing.
“We need it, us Brits, don’t we? We need some good stuff. With beautiful weather, we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.”

Championship leader Max is the son of former F1 star Jos Verstappen and Anthony knows the Dutch speedster has an excellent mentor – having been a key guiding influence in the early part of his own son’s career.
He said: “Jos is a really good guy, I’ve worked quite closely with him in the past.
“The sort of work ethic from Jos is the same with most parents, supporting their kids through karting.”
