He came from a long way back to strike on the Knavesmire and the form has been franked by the second horse going close in the Old Borough Cup at Haydock. Jim Crowley’s mount will love this step up in trip and has more to offer on just his fourth run.

Sleeping Lion won this 12 months ago and put in a solid effort at Ascot latest. We know he stays and likes the track. That gives him a chance from 3lb higher than last year.

Volcanic Sky maybe didn’t get home over two miles last time and this distance could suit better, while Calculation ran well at Sandown latest and is another to consider.

MUSICALITY sounds good after winning with something up his sleeve at Newmarket two Fridays ago. He finished his race strongly on the July course and this slightly longer distance can bring improvement.

He’s had just four runs like Ghalyoon who came back from more than a year off to finish a close second over seven furlongs here last month. Marcus Tregoning’s hope can build on that and won’t be far away.

Tranchee went close at Haydock last week on the back of a good Newbury effort. The handicapper has left his mark alone.

Edgewood and Sunset Breeze are also on the upgrade in a tight race.

SACRED just got collared late in the Lowther at York when the six-furlong trip stretched her a little too far.

She drops back to the minimum here which saw her go mighty close in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. She gets the fillies’ weight allowance from most of her rivals which could make the difference.

The Lir Jet is another who will be happier over this distance after his Norfolk Stakes win in June. He was a solid second in a Curragh Group 1 latest so has enough quality.

Frenetic had plenty in hand when scoring at Listed level last month and won’t mind if there’s a little rain around Town Moor.

Steel Bull banged his head in the stalls before an understandably poor run last time after winning the Molecomb at Glorious Goodwood. He has lots of pace so could bounce back.

SPANISH MISSION won a Listed race at Chester last time without breaking sweat and leaving Selino trailing in his wake.

There was plenty of give in the ground there so the 1m6f trip will have felt more like this Goodwood Cup distance. He has few miles on the clock for a stayer and can progress again.

Eagles By Day has plenty of class and won a York Group 3 over shorter. Stamina may be an issue for him.

The Grand Visir stays forever and was just a length off the pace in a decent handicap at Goodwood. He has won at Donny before and has a place squeak.

Revolver has been hoovering up lesser races for Sir Mark Prescott and staying won’t be a problem. He needs to improve but is only three so may well do so.

SPYCATCHER was beaten half a length in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York last time.

That was a real step forward from his debut fourth at Redcar and there should be a lot of improvement to come on this drop in grade.

Roger Varian won this race 12 months ago and has chances again with Laneqash who was an easy maiden winner at Ascot over this trip.

One Ruler looked classy when winning a Sandown maiden in a fast time and should cope with the leap into Listed company for in-form Charlie Appleby.

Royal Scimitar was another to run well in the Acomb and is open to improvement.
