Christian Eriksen left out of Inter Milan's Champions League squad after horror cardiac arrest at Euro 2020

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN has been left out of Inter Milan's Champions League group stage squad following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

The 29-year-old shockingly collapsed during Denmark's clash against Finland in Copenhagen back in June.

Quick-thinking skipper Simon Kjaer, 32, a centre-back at AC Milan, immediately placed Eriksen in the recovery position, cleared his airways and started administering CPR.

Medics then resuscitated the former Tottenham star with a defibrillator before he was taken off on a stretcher off and taken to hospital.

In the days that followed, he was then fitted with an ICD heart-starting device.

Eriksen then miraculously returned to train with the rest of his Inter teammates during pre-season.

He has been included in their Serie A squad for the 2021-22 campaign, but has not yet featured in the early part of the domestic campaign.

And now he will not be available for selection in their Champions League group stage as he is not in their 24-man squad.

UEFA regulations stipulate that three new players can be registered before the round of 16 if a team has advanced from the group stages.

Simone Inzaghi's side have been drawn alongside Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and Sheriff Tiraspol.

They will be looking to fair better than last season when they finished bottom of a group which also featured Real Madrid and Shakhtar.

Last week, Kjaer and Denmark's medical staff were given the 2021 Uefa President's Award for their response to Eriksen's cardiac arrest.

Thanking them for their life-saving actions, Eriksen said: “I would like to thank Morten [Skjoldager], Morten [Boesen] and the medical team who helped that day. You did a fantastic job and saved my life.

"Also a big thanks to my friend and captain Simon and my team-mates in for your support, both on June 12 and afterwards.

"And thanks to all the fans who have sent messages to me and my family. It means a lot and has given us strength and support. Thank you."
