PSA: An important but ~underrated~ astrological event is about to happen: On May 5, the Nodes of Destiny will change signs. ICYDK, the Nodes of Destiny (AKA the Nodes of Fate, the Lunar Nodes, or, less dramatically, the North and South Nodes) are two mathematical points in the sky reflecting the relationship between the Sun, Moon, and Earth. In astrology, the North Node represents the qualities we need to develop in order to grow, while the South Node represents the qualities that come naturally to us… and that we might rely on too much.
Every one and a half years, the Nodes change signs and move backwards (yep, they’re ~naturally retrograde~). When this happens, they tell us about the areas in our lives that we need to work on over the next one and a half years, as well as what we need to release. Basically, we’re cosmically pushed to release certain views and develop new ones.
On May 5, the Nodes of Destiny will enter Gemini and Sagittarius, where they’ll stay until January 18, 2022. The North Node (representing what we need to add to our lives) will be in Gemini, which means that we’ll need to focus our energies on intellectual growth, work on improving our communication styles, and let go of anxieties. The South Node, entering Sagittarius, indicates that we’ll have to let go of the urge to be “right” all the time and concentrate on the details (rather than forgetting them when looking at the big picture). The Nodes work together, which is why it’s important to consider them both. Don’t give too much to the future or the past—instead, work to balance out their energy.
Here’s what this transit means for you, based on your Sun sign:
Your mind is moving at lightning speed, which will bring you clarity and inspiration—and possibly make you feel a lil stressed. Take a few minutes every day to meditate and center yourself.
Don’t spend so much time wrapped up in nostalgia that you miss out on brand-new opportunities. If you manage to work through the past, you can lean into personal and professional successes.
The limelight may shine on you, but you’re focusing on your personal relationships. You’re striving to get even closer with your BFF/boo… but that may distract you from other important obligations. Don’t get too caught up in other people’s drama—make sure to spend time focusing on yourself, too.
Stop judging! You may feel that your crew, crush, and colleagues are falling short of your expectations. Instead of trying to change them, accept people for who they are—flaws and all. In return, they’ll give you unconditional support.
Resist the urge to try to fit in. You’re your own person, but right now, your originality is being tested. Don’t let anyone take away your “you-ness.” We love absolutely everything about you!
You’re making big steps in your career over the next year and a half. Don’t be afraid to take on more responsibility or even step into a public-facing role. You’re an extremely intelligent person—it’s time for everyone to notice. Get it!
Gossip will be buzzing in your social circle—and trust us, it will take a whole lot of self-control for you to resist joining in. Word of advice: Take the high road, before you get involved in a messy situation.
While you’re normally really good at setting limits with others, a few relationships may have slipped through the cracks and they seriously need some boundaries. Remember, it’s okay to ask for—and take—the space and privacy you need.
Here’s your dilemma: You want to be in a committed relationship, but you’re afraid to leap into uncharted waters. You’re notoriously impulsive, but don’t run away from love, Sag. Work on creating a relationship that works for you, even if it’s not what others would expect.
You’ll want to run away from your day-to-day obligations (and who can blame you?). Unfortunately for you, that’s not gonna work. Make a schedule and plan out your GCal a week ahead in order to keep up with tasks, and it’ll go more smoothly.
Your creativity is heightened right now, and over the next year and a half, you’ll be all about that lust for life. Enjoy it, but don’t let your social life get so important that you forget your other projects. Go to the party, but schedule in some creative time, too.
Your all-work-and-no-play days are ending, and you’re embracing some downtime with your fam, your photo album, and your Netflix account. However, you still feel a sense of duty to win big at the office. Put in the effort, but don’t let work take over your whole life. Remember, balance is key.
