The bathroom is one of the most time-consuming parts of a deep clean.
After all, you want to ensure it’s rid of any nasty bacteria and free from grime and unsightly water marks.
But a professional cleaner has shared a common mistake that lots of people make when it comes to cleaning their toilets.
The woman from Melbourne – also known as @thebigcleanco on TikTok – has revealed that there’s an all-important step people are missing with their disinfectant spray.
In a video, she says that disinfectant needs time to sit for it to do its thing – usually it should be left to soak for 10 minutes.
In fact, many sprays state this on the label.
She says: ‘So you think you’re a clean freak? But here’s a hard truth from a professional cleaner. Just because you’re using a disinfectant spray does not mean you’re disinfecting anything.
‘You need to read the labels. These supermarket sprays need to be left on the surface for 10 whole minutes to kill any germs.’
So simply spraying then wiping will not do the job.
Naturally, people have been shocked by the video and have shared their frustration that they weren’t aware of this crucial piece of information.
One person replied: ‘So you’re telling me… my toilet I cleaned thoroughly today is still dirty?’
While another added: ‘Well this did amazing things for my anxiety. MY HOUSE IS A CESSPOOL.’
While other cleaning fanatics have been quick to jump in, saying how surprised they are that this is such a revelation.
Someone wrote: ‘It’s so shocking how many people didn’t know this.’
