Platinum Jubilee pageant faces washout with rain and thunderstorms expected

As the Jubilee weekend gets under way it's looking like outdoor plans could be scuppered on the final day of celebrations.

Reports say that thunderstorms could be expected on Sunday 5 June, with the potential of power cuts triggered by the weather.

The showers will be sometimes heavy in the south and will spread north across England and Wales.

There is the chance of a complete washout for Sunday's jubilee pageant, with a mix of light and heavy rain from 3am right through to 6pm.

From 6pm it will be overcast but dry according to the BBC, and it'll give Brits a break from the showers.

However at 8pm until 4am on Monday it will pour down again.

The rainy weather comes as around 60,000 people are expected to host Big Jubilee Lunches during the day.

There will also be street parties galore as the big Bank Holiday weekend draws to a close.

For the Platinum celebrations, Sunday 5 June will see a special pageant take place.

The pageant will take place on Sunday, 5 June 2022, at 14:30 – 17:00 with a preshow at 14:00 – 14:30.

The plan is to explore and celebrate how the nation has made a global impact with various design trends and epic bands, and will be headed by Hemingway Design.

The pageant's segment is called The Time of Our Lives.

“The audience simply need to dig out their old glad rags, or find some good quality reproductions, and step out on to the streets of London to celebrate their favourite decades," a spokesperson for the Jubilee pageant shared.

What's more, the country-wide celebration will also see a group of 100 celebrities taking part.

There will be 2,750 military personnel, more than 6,000 volunteers, performers and key workers will also be involved in the celebration, as well as 2,500 members of the general public.

As if that wasn't enough, the next segment will see London's famous double decker buses driving through the town with the likes of Olympic ice skating heroes Torvill & Dean on top.

Comedian and musician Bill Bailey and famous footballer Gary Lineker are also expected to be on-board.
