Mother who put on 6st and couldn’t exercise after suffering two miscarriages reveals how she got her pre-baby body back in just 8 months

A mother-of-two whose weight spiralled out of control during her pregnancy has revealed how she shed six stone in just eight months.
Laura Hall, 34, from West Yorkshire, originally slimmed down from a size 18, weighing 15 stone in 2016 ahead of her wedding to husband Rich, 38, reaching her target weight of ten stone and wearing a slender size ten dress.
However in 2017, Laura fell pregnant with daughter Ayda, four, after suffering two tragic miscarriages and after being told by her doctor to stop exercising reverted back to unhealthy habits, ballooning to 15st 11lb.
Determined to lose weight following the birth of her second daughter Evelyn, now two, in May 2018, Laura swapped out cakes and takeaways with lean meats and vegetables, slimming down to a slender size 8-10 in less than a year.

Police officer Laura has been a yo-yo dieter for most of her adult life, first gaining weight when she joined the force at the age of 21, as a size 12.
Growing up, the mum had a healthy relationship with food but after joining the force would reach for pre-packed sandwiches on her lunch breaks and munched on cakes and takeaways in the office.
Laura noticed her weight spiralling during her first year on the job and after that her weight fluctuated for years.
She lost three stone after joining the gym in 2012 to get fitter and then her weight rose rapidly again after she met now-husband Rich, 38, in 2014.

By January 2015, Laura was a size 18 weighing 15 stone and was desperate to make a change.
‘I had very little confidence and felt embarrassed by how I looked,’ Laura said. ‘I thought everyone would be talking about me and laughing at me.’
Determined to lose weight Laura joined Slimming World and when Rich proposed in September 2015, Laura felt even more motivated, working out five or six times a week.

By February 2016, the mum had finally reached her target weight of 10 stone and wore a size 10 figure-hugging dress on her wedding day that October.
After tying the knot, the couple sadly suffered two heartbreaking miscarriages over the following year.
When Laura fell pregnant again in September 2017, she was terrified of history repeating itself and vowed to do all she could to ensure a textbook pregnancy – and also gave up exercising for fear that it would impact her chances of conceiving.

‘We were over the moon but I was really scared of having another miscarriage and was advised by my midwife to stop exercising,’ Laura said.
‘I was heartbroken after my miscarriages and really struggled – which made my pregnancy very difficult because I was anxious and waiting for something bad to happen.
‘Pregnancy after miscarriage is awful. It should be such a special time but you’re constantly worrying.
‘I also felt quite ill in the early stages of my pregnancy and couldn’t face eating a lot of foods that I would have done previously.

Husband Rich helped Laura on her weight loss journey too, by cooking healthier meals at home, so that she never felt like she was restricting herself
‘As I felt so sick with morning sickness, I often found myself eating toast and biscuits, and I slowly slid back into my old habits.’
As her pregnancy progressed, Laura put on the weight she had lost before her wedding and more, gaining six stone and weighing in at 15st 11lb.
She gave birth to her daughter Evelyn, now two, in May 2018.
The mum felt ‘mortified’ by her body and her confidence plummeted, so she once again tackled the weight – by re-joining Slimming World, this time alongside her dad, now 59, who himself wanted to lose two and a half stone.
She said: ‘It helped having him as support and we really spurred each other on.I started trying to exercise again and started off by going for long walks with Evelyn in the pram.
‘As I got fitter, I started running again and ran with my dad, who has been running for years.

‘He encouraged me to keep going and promised I would find it easier as I got fitter, so I stuck with it and it wasn’t long before I was running longer distances and enjoying it.’
Husband Rich helped Laura on her weight loss journey too, by cooking healthier meals at home, so that she never felt like she was restricting herself.
He made simple food swaps by using low calorie oil sprays instead of cooking oil and using ingredients like Quark and yoghurt instead of fatty creams.
The couple also incorporated more vegetables into their meals and used lean meats, with visible fat removed.
The weight started melting off and within eight months Laura had lost six stone.Her dad also reached his goal weight and now enjoys a healthier lifestyle.
Laura said: ‘I have much more confidence since losing weight and feel so much better about myself.
‘I have much more energy too, which is good with having two young daughters.
‘I couldn’t have done it without Rich – he eats with me and cooks us amazing meals which makes it really easy.
‘He has known me and been with me at my biggest weight and as I am now, and loves me regardless, which is the most important thing to me.’
When Laura fell pregnant again in November 2019, she promised herself she would stick to her healthier lifestyle.
This time, she only gained 1st 10lbs before giving birth to daughter Ada in July 2020 but within eight weeks, was back at her goal weight of 10 stone and is now a size 8-10.
‘The food we eat is just cooked in a healthier way but it still tastes delicious so it doesn’t feel like I’m on a diet or restricting myself – it’s just a healthier lifestyle.’
Laura is determined to stick with her balanced lifestyle and hopes her daughters will grow up with a healthier relationship with food.
She is still working in the force and now documents her health journey on Instagram, which she says keeps her motivated.
