Jenna Dewan is getting candid about her struggles during the early days of motherhood after giving birth to daughter Everly.
The “Step Up” star revealed life was “really difficult” because she didn’t have the support of her then-husband, Channing Tatum, who was predominantly absent due to work.
“I had to travel with her and at the time, Chan wasn’t available to be with us for the most part. So, it was me, my doula, and Evie all by ourselves traveling at 6 weeks,” she shared on Monday’s episode of Dear Media’s podcast “Dear Gabby.”
Dewan, 40, explained that balancing work with being a mom to now-8-year-old Everly was “really hard” because she had to be on set for long hours at a time, which gave her “a lot of postpartum anxiety.”
“I did have her on set with me constantly. It was just really difficult. … It was like, I just never stopped. You know, you’re up a couple times in the night and then you’re working all day,” she recalled. “I was breastfeeding, I was pumping, I was without a partner, I mean it was just craziness.”
The “Take the Lead” actress had a different experience entirely while welcoming now-16-month-old son Callum with husband Steve Kazee, sharing that she was “so grounded” during the process.
“Even though the world was crazy, I was home and in this love nest and it was different,” she said of raising Callum with Kazee amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Dewan and the “Magic Mike” star were married from 2009 to 2019 before their divorce. She and Kazee have been together since 2018 and got engaged in February 2020.
