There are few things better after a heavy night out than remembering half of your takeaway is still in the fridge.
Or, maybe you treated yourself to a rare meal out and took home a doggy bag – that’s lunch sorted!
But, sadly, we’ve all pinged food leftovers in the microwave and found them to be lacklustre second time around.
And, the absolute worst culprit of this is chips.
Reheating the delicious potato-based side often leaves you with soggy, placid chips that have no business being on a plate.
Luckily, there is a way to reheat chips that will ensure they’re crunchy, hot and as tasty as the day before.
A chip expert, Magda Ganeo, from the Real Food Cafe, explained why our fries are never the same the next day.
Magda told Metro.co.uk : “The biggest reason chips go soggy when reheating is moisture.
“Potatoes are full of moisture that escapes when reheated, especially in a microwave or oven where the steam can’t escape.”
But, there is a way to reheat them that will have you chomping on them blissfully at lunchtime.
Magda said: “Leftover chips should be cooled as quickly as possible and placed in the fridge with a loose cover.
"Sealing leftover potatoes or chips completely can cause bacteria growth.”
She notes that you should then dry the chips with kitchen towel or salt to remove excess moisture.
If you have a deep fat fryer then that’s the optimal way to re-cook the chips, but you can fry them in a hot pan with a bit of oil too.
Magda claims you can even grill them until hot and crunchy, but you must regularly rotate them to avoid burning the fries.
Magda continued: “The key to crispy leftover chips is to start dry and cook on a high heat – or just eat them all in the first sitting!”
Once they’re hot and crispy once again, rest the chips on kitchen towel which will soak up any excess grease.
