Couple shocks wedding guests with surprise baby gender reveal during first dance

The first dance at the wedding is meant to be memorable – but usually that means the couple learn a routine, or attempt the Dirty Dancing lift.

But one couple from Blackpool took it a step further and delighted their guests with a surprise gender reveal for their unborn baby while they hit the dancefloor for the first time as man and wife.

Katie Gayton, 32, was 17 weeks pregnant when she tied the knot with husband Benjamin, 34.

Confetti cannons showered blue paper over the happy couple as they shared their first dance as husband and wife, announcing they were expecting a baby boy.

Video footage from the beautiful moment showed Katie and Benjamin celebrating their happy news in front of their loved ones before embracing in a huge hug.

‘My guests knew I was pregnant but nobody knew we were going to do a gender reveal apart from my mum and dad who pulled the cannons over us,’ says Katie.

‘We were both so excited throughout the day, and when it came to our first dance, we were both shaking with excitement.

‘All the way through the dance, we kept asking each other when it was going to happen and if it was going to be pink or blue.

‘We both had tears in our eyes when the cannons finally popped. It was so wonderful, we both just felt overwhelmed, excited and full of joy and happiness.

‘I’m over the moon to be having a boy, both of us can’t wait!’

Katie and Benjamin had gone to baby ultrasound scan studio Bump of Churchtown in Southport on September 2 for a private scan – two days before the wedding.

It was Benjamin’s idea to reveal the gender of their first baby during their first dance to Time of Our Lives by James Blunt.

Garden landscaper Benjamin adds: ‘Come on, we’re having a boy!

‘I’m very happy – I got a beautiful wife and a beautiful boy in one day.’

Katie and Benjamin are expecting their baby boy in March next year.
