Queen ‘loved Fray Bentos pies on flights as it's a change from first class’

SHE might have access to the world's best chefs – but even The Queen can't resist some old fashioned comfort food every once in a while.

And let's face it, there''s NOTHING more comforting than a classic Fray Bentos pie.

According to Her Majesty's former pilot, The Queen and other members of the Royal Family would happily chow down on tinned pies on long-haul flights in the 90s.

Appearing on a Channel 5 documentary, Graham Laurie said: "Do you know, they used to love it.

"I think it's such a lovely changed from all that fancy food which comes first class!"

While the pilot didn't reveal exactly what flavour The Queen preferred, the iconic British brand is famous for its Steak and Kidney, Minced Beef and Onion and Chicken and Bacon pies.

And if a £2.50 pie is good enough for Her Maj, then it's certainly good enough for us.

The Fray Bentos brand was founded in 1865 and is named after a cow-rearing city inUruguay.

After WWII, the pies became a staple in British homes and the brand moved their manufacturer to the London Borough of Hackey but are now based in King's Lynn, Norfolk, which isn't too far from the Queen's home in Sandringham.

And considering how the monarch has NEVER once revealed her favourite meal, we're going to hedge our bets and guess it's a Fray Bentos Steak and Kidney pie… she's only human after all.

In more Royal Family news, The Queen's guests "sleep on second-hand bed linen" at Buckingham Palace, Joanna Lumley has revealed.

And The Royal Family are told how they'll be portrayed in The Crown so they can "brace themselves", the show's writer has revealed.

Plus The Queen is "hurt and disappointed" that Meghan Markle skipped the "merry chaos" of the Highland Games, reports have claimed.
