Princess Kate mesmerises on Coronation Day wearing Alexander McQueen

Kate Middleton, 41, has arrived at the Coronation wearing an Alexander McQueen embroidered ivory silk crepe dress. King Charles’s Coronation is the first ceremony of its kind to happen in 70 years.

Kate Middleton is wearing a beautiful Alexander McQueen gown which features silver bullion and threadwork embroidery featuring rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs.

These emblems signify the four nations, England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

These motifs have similarly appeared on Charlotte’s dress in ivory satin stitch embroidery.

Kate has paired her dress with a silver bullion, crystal and silver threadwork three-dimensional leaf embroidery headpiece.

This headpiece has been created by Jess Collett and Alexander McQueen.

It has been reported that King Charles and Queen Camilla did not want the Princess or Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh to wear an official tiara at the ceremony.

In addition, the Princess of Wales has accessorised with a deep blue Royal Victorian Order mantle edged in scarlet.

Kate chose beautiful earrings today which are a touching tribute to Prince William’s late mother, with the pearl and diamond pieces belonging to Diana, Princess of Wales.

The stud portion of the earrings are intricate, featuring a horseshoe set with baguette diamonds.

In addition, there is a leafy portion wrapping over and around it.

A pearl drop is then suspended from the diamond portion.

Princess Diana wore the jewels on many occasions during the 1990s, including an English National Ballet Gala Performance in Budapest in 1992 when she paired the earrings with the Spencer Tiara.

Prince William and Prince Harry inherited their mother’s amazing jewellery collection, and now their wives have been spotted wearing the sentimental pieces.

This was a touching tribute from Kate today as it meant Princess Diana was present in some way at the Coronation.

Kate also wore Queen Elizabeth II’s George VI Festoon Necklace, which King George VI commissioned for his daughter in 1950.

The glittering three-strand necklace, a favourite of the late monarch’s, was made using 105 loose collet-set diamonds.
