A whopping 84 percent of Americans are feeling themselves.
That’s according to a new global study of masturbation and “self-care” trends from sex toy company Tenga. Researchers surveyed 10,000 adults in nine countries for their 2019 Self-Pleasure Report.
Here’s the beatdown on the do-it-yourself data:
Who’s getting hands-on?
Almost everyone! Americans are early risers: the average reported starting age is 14.5-years-old.
While 91 percent of men have done the deed, women are not far behind at 78 percent.
Millennials do it the most out of any generation, with 88 percent having touched themselves down there before.
What are we whacking with?
Technique differs by gender: three in four men watch porn to get off, though only a little over half of women do so. However, almost 40 percent of women use an external vibrating toy, compared to just over 5 percent of men.
Almost 50 percent of both men and women use their imaginations to titillate themselves.
This is awkward: Americans think about past partners the same amount of time they think about their current one — about one-third of the time each.
When are we whacking?
Call it a DIY hobby: Most Americans, 60 percent, rub and tug at least once a week. One in five get at it a few times a month.
We can chalk it up to the time of year. The survey found that the top three months respondents felt masturbatory were June (14 percent), July (12 percent) and December (11 percent).
Most people end their day with a little me time: 43 percent of men and women usually tickle their pickle between 7:30 and 11:30 pm.
Where is pleasuretown?
Make sure to knock! Playtime usually happens in the bedroom, for 87 percent of women and 73 percent of men. The bathroom is another popular private spot: it’s favored by 35 percent of men and 18 percent of women.
Public spaces are not off limits. Six percent of male respondents have done it while driving, compared to 2 percent of women. Other minimal — but alarming — responses included kitchens and at work. Yikes.
Why are we self-relieving?
For that big O, hello. When climbing up that mountaintop, 42 percent of women and 59 percent of men always reach the climax.
Most Americans are taking care of themselves to take care of themselves: a whopping 74 percent see masturbation as a form of self-care. In fact, masturbation is the second most popular way to relieve stress (number one is sex).
