Sophie Turner, 23, and Maisie Williams, 22, have been open about their close friendship but it was put to the test after the former took a swipe at her Game of Thrones co-star. The Sansa Stark actress took to Twitter to post about a contest which she’s involved with for Omaze, offering one fan the chance to attend a screening with her. In view of her 2.3 million followers, she wrote: “Want to be my plus-one at the Dark Phoenix premiere and hang with the X-Men cast? It’s all to support 4 incredible causes!” Maisie replied: “OMG pick me pls.”(sic)
To which the blonde beauty cheekily responded: “Fat chance.”
The exchange seemingly appeared to all be in jest, as the pair have spoken candidly about their friendship on the Game of Thrones set since the show first aired in 2011.
Sophie told Dr Phil, 68 on his Phil in the Blanks podcast about how the two of them grew close over the years but at times their friendship was “destructive”.
Speaking about the pressures of growing up in the public eye, she said: “I have a friend, Maisie, who was on the show with me. She’s just a year younger than me and she and I were growing up together.
“She was my best friend and she was the only one I really told about all of it,” she continued.
“Maisie and I used do it [stay inside] together. I think being friends with each other was quite destructive because we were going through the same thing.
“We used to get home from set, go to a Tesco across the road, a little supermarket, and just buy food,” the Game of Thrones favourite recalled.
“We’d go back to our room and eat it in bed.
“We never socialised for a couple of years,” Sophie admitted. “We didn’t socialise with anyone but ourselves.”
Meanwhile, the British actress has had cause to celebrate after she married her beau Joe Jonas, 29, in as surprise wedding ceremony in Las Vegas last week.
Sophie and Joe exchanged vows in The Little White Chapel, which was officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator.
Witnesses to the wedding included Joe brother’s Nick and Kevin Jonas, 31, plus DJ Diplo.
The latter filmed parts of the ceremony and shared videos with his 5.2 million followers of Sophie walking down the aisle.
He captioned the upload: “Gonna hit this wedding real quick.”
The loved-up couple were spotted together at a fashion show in New York yesterday.
Game of Thrones episode four, season eight will air on HBO at 9pm Sunday and will be simulcast in the UK at 2am Monday and at 9pm.
