Molly-Mae Hague has revealed that many of her fans have been motivated to get their moles checked after she shared a video about the mole on her calf being cancerous.
The former Love Island star, 21, had shared a video on her YouTube channel revealing that her doctor had told her the mole she had had removed from her leg was a malignant melanoma, but had sent it off to the USA for further tests to be sure.
She returned to Instagram to share how overwhelmed she was at the response to her video, writing: ‘850,000 views in 21 hours. Thank you guys for the love and support on this video…
‘I’m so happy to see so many messages in my DMs from you all saying you’re going to have certain moles checked after watching…
‘Don’t think it’ll be someone else’s story because you don’t ever know.’
Molly had revealed the phone call from her doctor in the video, adding: ‘I had the mole removed, the removal was fine.
‘I got the call today, and he’s told me it is a malignant melanoma. That’s skin cancer basically, which is obviously petrifying, and shocking, and scary. I don’t even know what to really think or say.’
She had previously told fans that her mum had noticed the new mole on her calf when she was in the Love Island villa but had been told by two dermatologists that it was nothing to worry about.
Still concerned, she raised it with another doctor while visiting for a different complaint and was told it needed to be removed.
Molly told her followers: ‘As I was leaving the doctors, I said: “Oh, I’ve had my mole checked by two dermatologists and they said it’s fine. But can you just quickly give me a third opinion on this mole? I personally don’t feel like it looks quite right.”
‘So then I lifted up my jogger and she took one look at the mole and was like: “Yeah, that needs to come off.” And my heart started racing.
‘She just looked quite concerned. I was by myself and I literally just went for a routine check up… and ended up finding out that I had to have a mole removed.
‘I was walking round with skin cancer on my leg.’
Molly-Mae had initially been told she needed a second operation to remove a bigger margin around the mole for safety but the op is currently on hold while she awaits a result from the USA.
