Mark Wright admits hes still scarred from several family members being hospitalised with Covid

Mark Wright has opened up on still feeling “scarred” after the emotional trauma of 2020, as four of his family members were hospitalised with COVID-19.

Two more of the TOWIE star’s family members contracted the virus, but thankfully didn’t require medical treatment.

Sadly, 34 year old Mark’s uncle Eddie George Wright didn’t survive his illness and the whole family were left “heartbroken” by the loss.

In a new interview, the former footballer has reflected back on the last year’s events and how the family are coping now.

Admitting he was getting “choked up” trying to talk about the trauma of six of his family members getting covid, Mark said they were all “sort of getting through it”.

Speaking to The Mirror, the star, who is married to Brassic actress Michelle Keegan, also 34, and recently said he was "sick" of the constant scrutiny around them, went on: “It really shows how strong the mind is and how strong the body is.

"It was devastating, the only way I can describe it is, it was a depressing time last Christmas, it was so hard.

"At one point I had my dad, his two brothers, and my nan, their mum, all in hospital, and then my grandad at home with Covid. He couldn’t get out of bed, so we had to care for him.

"I was saying, 'We will be very lucky if only one of our family members dies from this.' They were all in hospital on oxygen machines.”

The star, who is currently working on a £1.3million renovation project for his and Michelle’s forever home, also said the festive period was particularly hard because his dad, Mark Wright Senior’s, oxygen levels were so low at the time no one could go near him for fear of his safety.

Mark explained that he it’s only looking back now he realises just how to “tough” that time was, even going so far as to say it was the toughest time of his entire life.

“I am still scarred from it now. But you have to move on, and that’s what life’s about, isn’t it? Without the downs you couldn’t have the ups,” the TV personality added to the publication.

While the Wright family have undergone immense pain and grief through covid, as many other families have during the pandemic, they now have something incredibly exciting to look forward to.

Josh Wright and his wife Hollie Kane Wright recently announced they are expecting their first baby together.

Mark's 31 year old brother is the first of the Wright siblings to announce a pregnancy, and Mark said he's "ecstatic" about the news.
