Luke Campbell ordered to fight P4P king Lomachenko for WBC world lightweight title

LUKE CAMPBELL has been ordered to fight pound-for-pound king Vasyl Lomachenko for the WBC world lightweight title.

The Brit star, 31, will take on the Ukrainian for the vacant crown – and three of the four lightweight titles could be on the line.

Campbell has been tipped to take on Russia’s Zaur Abdullaev or America’s Devin Haney after Mikey Garcia vacated the crowned as "Emeritus" champion.

But he has instead been ordered to face Lomachenko, also 31, after he stopped Anthony Crolla last month.

The Ukrainian defended his WBA and WBO crowns in the Los Angeles showdown, won in four rounds – and now wants to add a third title.

Meanwhile, Campbell was edged out of close fight against Jorge Linares for the WBA title in 2017.

Now, the sanctioning body has said: "The WBC has accepted Vasyl Lomachenko's petition to fight for the WBC lightweight title.

"A fight between mandatory challenger Luke Campbell from UK and multiple weight division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko from Ukraine with the vacant WBC lightweight championship on the line, is officially ordered.

"Mikey Garcia, as WBC Emeritus champion, reserves his right to fight for the lightweight title."

Tweeting about the news, Campbell seemed excited to take on "the best".

Campbell's promoters Matchroom are thought to be hopeful they can lure Lomachenko to the UK for the fight.

But Eddie Hearn isn't too keen on the fight, as he tweeted: "I can’t say I agree with the WBC’s decision but @luke11campbell v Loma is on and likely for the UK!

"Two Olympic champs and I believe Luke can do it!"
