Louise Redknapp on how Denise van Outen ‘made a difference’
Louise Redknapp, 45, shared that the creative director of Strictly Come Dancing had to step in after she was failing to capture the “sexy” mood of her Argentine tango while in rehearsals. The Eternal singer couldn’t stop smiling after her now ex-husband Jamie Redknapp and their children had visited her, while she was preparing her raunchy number alongside her dance partner Kevin Clifton.
Louise made the revelations as she sat down with good friend Sophie Ellis-Bextor on her Spinning Plates podcast.
She divulged: “I always remember, you remember Jason [Gilkison] who was the creative director, [what he] used to say…
“I was doing the Argentine tango, and that week Jamie and the kids had come to see me… you know they do a day rehearsal, and they pulled me to one side and said, ‘It is looking great but can you stop smiling. It’s [meant to be] a sexy mysterious dance.”
Jason is originally from Australia and is an internationally renowned director and choreographer.

He is currently creative director of choreography on Strictly Come Dancing for the BBC and is also head judge on Dancing With The Stars South Africa.
The singer also admitted that she would not consider doing a similar programme again because of the “circus” surrounding it.
She continued: “I genuinely do what I do because I genuinely love it.
“It comes from such a deep place, performing, that the outside of what goes on, the circus around it… is something that I would never want to put my family through again.”
Louise appeared on Strictly five years ago and was partnered with Stacey Dooley’s now boyfriend Kevin.
The pair made it to the final but were unfortunately beaten by Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton.
These days Louise and Kevin do not keep in contact, as she admitted not speaking to him in a “long time”.
Louise previously told The Sun: “I haven’t spoken to him for a long time. I haven’t spoken to Kevin in a long, long time and I’ve never met Stacey.”

The singer has put the dance contest firmly behind her and has gone on to pursue a career on stage.
She most recently appeared in Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 musical in the West End and starred in a tour of Cabaret prior to that.
Louise admitted that going into a national lockdown left her “really panicked” as her theatre career was only just beginning to take-off.
The star recalled: “At the beginning of lockdown I was really panicked, I finished… I was three nights into a tour. I was back in a run at The Savoy [theatre)] for 9 to 5.
“So I was really going [places], I was like, ‘OK I’m taking off, this is happening’ and then it all just stopped.”
She added: “I think it took me three weeks to stop having a major panic attack, about what is happening here.”
Louise split from her long-term love Jamie in 2017, the couple has two children together: Charley, 15, and Beau, 11.
Opening up on the couple’s split, Louise told Stella Magazine: “I have spent most of my life pleasing everyone else, worrying about being judged and thinking I should always do the right thing by staying at home, looking after my kids and my husband. I lost myself.”
