Sky Sports presenter Jacquie Beltrao has bravely opened up about her health battle after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. The former Olympic gymnast previously fought breast cancer in 2013 and later underwent a mastectomy.

The 55-year-old has since opened up about her devastating diagnosis in June, after her cancer returned.

Following a biopsy on a tiny lump below her collarbone, Jacquie discovered that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and that it was incurable.

The former Olympics gymnast has now revealed some “game changing” news that she has been given.

The small-screen star was originally due to have 16 rounds of chemotherapy; but a scan after the eighth showed that the tumour had shrunk by more than 50 per cent.

It was later decided she should stop chemotherapy after the 12th round of treatment.

Jacquie has since spoken candidly about her health diagnosis and admitted “life had stopped” until her doctor gave her some good news.

“Mr Sharma described the main tumour in my chest as having gone ‘from the size of a big man’s big toe, to the size of the nail on your little finger,'” she explained.

“We’d been so tense and worried about the scan, life had pretty much stopped, so this news was a game changer.”

Jacquie had her final chemotherapy session last week and will now take a targeted drug that’s been shown to be effective in treating advanced breast cancer.

The presenter continued to MailOnline that she had “broken down in tears” back in June following the cancer’s return.

Jacquie commented: “I collapsed in tears. I couldn’t believe we were back inside this nightmare again.”

Her daughter Amelia also spoke candidly about the difficult moment after she found her mother crying.

“Mum was huddled in a corner on her phone,” she said. “Then she ran upstairs to my dad and we heard, ‘No, no, no.’

“My brothers and I burst into the office and saw her crying into Dad’s chest — in that instant I thought anything going wrong in my life doesn’t matter any more.”

The mum-of-three went on to explain her heartache and felt like she was “losing my mind”.

Jacquie stated: “I felt as though I was losing my mind or having a nervous breakdown.

“I was so self-absorbed, I didn’t have the capacity to think whether I was being a good mother or a bad mother.”

The star is married to Edouardo Beltrao and they have three children together.

She has been on viewers’ screens after speaking out about her cancer on social media in June.

She said at the time, in a post captioned “#breastcancer #again”: “During lockdown, I took my own advice, did a check and found a tiny lump just here.

“Had it checked out and biopsied straight away. Turns out it’s a grade three breast cancer, much nastier than the first one I had.”
