Evan Rachel Wood accuses former fiance Marilyn Manson of 'horrific' abuse

Westworld actress Evan Rachel Wood has accused former partner Marilyn Manson of abuse, alleging the Beautiful People musician ‘started grooming’ her when she was a teenager.

Releasing a statement on Instagram on Monday morning, Wood – who previously spoke about the alleged abuse she was subjected to by an unnamed ex – claimed she was ‘brainwashed’ by Mansion, real name Brian Warner.

Manson, now 52, and Wood, now 33, became engaged in January 2010 after three years of dating, however they called off their engagement in August the same year.

Wood wrote today: ‘The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson.

‘He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission.

‘I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives.

‘I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.’

Following her statement, Wood shared allegations from other women levelled at Manson, posting them to her Instagram Stories.

Echoing the claims of PTSD shared by the other women, Ashley Walters alleged on social media: ‘I continue to suffer from PTSD, and struggle with depression. I stayed in touch with quite a few people who went through their own traumas, under his control.

‘As we all struggled, as survivors do, to get on with our lives, I’d keep hearing stories disturbingly similar to our own experiences. It became clear the abuse he’s caused; he continues to inflict on so many and I cannot stand by and let this happen to others. Brian Warner needs to be held accountable.’

Among the accusations, the women allege Manson subjected them to sexual assault, psychological and physical abuse, as well as intimidation.

While Manson is yet to publicly address Wood’s claims, as well as those of the other women, he has ‘categorically denied’ similar allegations in the past.

Wood’s statement comes after, in 2018, in her efforts to get the Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights passed in all 50 states, the star testified before a House Judiciary Subcommittee of the alleged abuse she suffered from an unnamed former partner.

She said: ‘My experience with domestic violence was this: Toxic mental, physical and sexual abuse which started slow but escalated over time, including threats against my life, severe gaslighting and brainwashing, waking up to the man that claimed to love me raping what he believed to be my unconscious body.’

In 2019 Wood also went on to testify before California legislators for the Phoenix Act, which altered the statute of limitations for crimes involving domestic violence.

The same year she also shared an image of self-harm scars, as part of a social media campaign, saying the photo was taken ‘two years into an abusive relationship’.

Manson’s team previously hit back after a 2009 interview with Spin resurfaced, in which the musician was quoted as saying of Wood: ‘I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer.’

Representative said his words were ‘obviously a theatrical rock star interview promoting a new record, and not a factual account.’

Metro.co.uk contacted Manson’s reps for comment.
