Catherine Tyldesley lost weight to stay alive for son: I was obese and didnt want to die

Actress Catherine Tyldesley, 38, has opened up on her weight loss journey, admitting her biggest motivation was "staying alive."

The Coronation Street star has always been very open and honest when it comes to discussing her weight, after going from a size 22 to a size eight after dropping six stone.

In a chat with OK!, Catherine said: "For me, the biggest motivation was staying alive. I was obese and we know that obesity is connected to mortality.

"I want to be on this earth for as long as possible because I love my life and then my little boy came along and even more so.

"I thought 'wow, I have a huge responsibility' and I want to run around after him and be here for him for as long as possible. That's my biggest drive – staying alive."

The star also once told her followers that she lost the weight because she "couldn't walk up the stairs without gasping for breath".

Speaking on Instagram, she added: "I had zero energy, and my skin was terrible. Educating myself on nutrition was the best thing I ever did."

Catherine is a mum to son Alfie who she shares with husband Tom Pitfiled, and they have baby number two on the way – a little girl.

The gorgeous brunette star has kept up her fitness throughout her pregnancy, and explained how her routine changes while pregnant.

"I'm still training with Ultimate Performance. I also train a lot on my own. I think the most important thing is listening to your body. If I feel knackered, I feel knackered and so I'll rest.

"It's all about keeping moving, keeping a sensible body weight, and nutrition is always incredibly important. When I'm pregnant I'm the soil for my baby, so I have to be conscious of everything I'm putting into my body. It's all going to baby so that's the best way to look at it.

"Don't get me wrong, I treat myself. Life's too short. It's being mindful and knowing that if you're going to eat a lot of junk, all of that junk is going to baby. I try my very best to have a balanced diet and keep active."

And Catherine has told her adorable son that he's going to be a big brother, and revealed his funny reaction to OK!

"Alfie is so excited about becoming a brother. When we discovered it was a girl Alfie did ask the doctor if he could change it to a boy.

"I'm sure he'll get over it bless him. He's really excited though, he can't wait," Catherine added.

Catherine, who recently shared snaps of her baby bump, also discussed her health and fitness with OK! and spoke about a company she champions – Symprove.

The star began her Symprove journey eight years ago and explained to us why.

"Many years ago I was really struggling with irritable bowel syndrome and I'd also just done a course of antibiotics.

"I heard about Symprove and I haven't looked back. At the time I was on quite a lot of medication for IBS and I'd been admitted to hospital because the pain was so bad sometimes.

"Symprove became a huge part of my life. I was able to come off all my medication which is huge. It became such a big deal to me. Ever since then I've become a bit of a Symprove nerd and have told everybody."

Catherine Tyldesley is an advocate for unique, water-based food supplement, Symprove, which is based on an extract of germinated barley together with four carefully selected strains of live and active bacteria.
