Calvin Harris recalls near-death experience when his heart stopped in hospital

Calvin Harris has spoken about the moment his heart stopped in hospital.

The DJ recalled being rushed to hospital where things took a terrifying turn.

He shared the story rather casually on Twitter in response to a fan who posted a clip from one of his shows in 2014.

The I’m Not Alone singer said: ‘Interesting year for me 2014, started with me knocking myself off number 1 in the UK and ended with my heart getting restarted in the ER…this sort of stuff happened in between.’

In 2014 Calvin reached number 1 with singles Summer, and then later Blame which featured John Newman.

It was the same year he was forced to pull out of performing at the MTV European Music Awards and tweeted at the time about having ‘heart problems’.

He has spoken in the past about having a heart condition called arrythmia, where your heart beats with an irregular rhythm.

The star has given up drinking and revealed in a Twitter Q&A that he got into a ‘right old state’ at the beginning of his career.

Calvin also previously told the BBC: ‘I stopped drinking because it actually was making me ill. It was affecting my brain in the worst way.’

Now he gets his kicks from gardening, growing things like watermelon and kale.

Speaking to KIIS FM in December 2018, he shared: ‘I like the balance that it gives me, because in my work life it’s not always like this obviously, but there’s madness in the clubs and records and getting songs done and all that. I like to ground.

‘Watching a watermelon take shape – it’s a beautiful thing. It’s an underrated thing, nature. I think people take it for granted.’

Calvin went on: ‘It takes a lot longer to grow a plant than write a song, so it teaches a lot of patience, which is something in 2018 that not a lot of us have.’
