Adam Peatys brother says split from girlfriend has nothing to do with Strictly Curse

Adam Peaty's brother says the Strictly Come Dancing curse has nothing to do with his sibling's split from his girlfriend Eiri Munroe.

The Olympic swimmer, 27, released a statement on social media announcing the split and apologised to Eiri and their son George for "letting them down."

Now, his brother James has said he is aware of the reasons for the split – and it has nothing to do with the so-called "Strictly curse".

James said he was not able to share the details, as he spoke withMailOnline about how his heartbroken sibling was fairing up following the relationship breakdown.

He said: “He was in it over a year ago. It has nothing to do with Strictly. I was surprised that it happened but sensed it was coming, but Adam’s doing OK. It’s his Gladiator mindset."

"A lot of people will wonder why it’s happened, he has a lot of followers. I’m close to my brother, I’m with him every day, and he confides in me. I’m his support network."

James added they have been keeping Adam busy with DIY to renovate his home.

Three-time Olympic gold medallist Adam finished ninth on Strictly last year after reaching week seven with professional dance partner Katya Jones.

Eiri later admitted she felt like "a single mum" during his time on the BBC One dance show and experienced "horrible" online trolling after Adam and Katya appeared to almost kiss after an intense Argentine Tango routine.

Adam took to his Instagram earlier this week to share the sad news of the couple's separation. He said their son George, who turns two next month, remained their top "priority".

Adam wrote: "Eiri and I have decided to go our separate ways. We have enjoyed a wonderful three years together, 2 of those with our gorgeous son George.

"Our priority has always been to provide the happiest and healthiest home environment for him, and right now that means ending our romantic relationship.

"I could not ask for a greater mother for George and I am so grateful to Eiri for her amazing support over the last three years."

He added: "Eiri and George, I'm sorry for letting you down. My only interest is for the well-being of our family at this difficult time so I ask that our privacy is respected."

Adam ended his statement by saying he won't be making any further comments.

Eiri also took to her own Instagram to share an additional statement.

In a message to her "family, friends and followers", Eiri wrote: "The last three years have been so, so amazing. Our little family has experienced so much laughter and love and joy. You guys have been such a significant part of that!

"This next chapter of my life is surely going to be an incredibly difficult one. I would appreciate that people would refrain from commenting, speculating or messaging. I have shared so much of my life, but for now I’m choosing privacy and I hope that you will all respect that.

"I love and appreciate you all so much and I'm so thankful for all the fun and opportunities you've given me. I am going to be taking a break from social media, so goodbye for now. Thank you so much for everything."
